Description
A mesmerizing thriller -- told in reverse!
A surprising and utterly original story that blends page-turning suspense with exhilarating imagination as a man goes back in time to prevent a vicious crime from ruining his life.
Nick Quinn is being held in jail, accused of the murder of his wife, Julia. He knows she's dead--he saw her bloody corpse--but he's innocent. A mysterious gentleman gives Nick a talisman that takes him back in time, hour by hour, for a total of twelve hours. With each hour, Nick finds more clues to the identity of the killer, but he also discovers that his actions in the past may have unexpected repercussions in the future. If he doesn't set things right by the thirteenth hour, all will be lost, and his desperate attempts to save Julia's life may lead to a far greater catastrophe than he could have ever imagined.

Summary: "What time is it?"
Bought this in Miami Intl Airport. An interesting plot but dulled by the mediocre writing. Going back in time Nike continues to profess his undying love for wife Julia, who is killed in the first few pages, ad naseum. After all the twists and turns, the book had a happy ending.
One technical note for the author. The Glock pistol, which was mentioned many times, does NOT have an exposed hammer.

Oh, the books of summer fun. The 13th Hour is a very unique and satisfying novel for many reasons. Can I say this is a thriller, a paranormal novel, romance, who-done-it, action /adventure? Why bother to categorize it? Let's just call it fun and imaginative. If your spouse was killed would you go back in time and save them if you could? Rarely do I like to do things backward, but Richard Doetsch has us do just that, one hour at a time.
The 13th Hour is a very unique read. The plot itself is not something that is terribly unheard of, the death of a spouse. Going backwards in time, discovering things as each hour unfolds, the ramifications of those discoveries, the choices made from each twist and the fates to which those decisions are tied is what makes this novel tick. The action is quick, the characters are engaging and well crafted, we come to care about the outcome and the crossroads as we approach the final hour.
Richard Doetsch puts together a challenging novel in The 13th Hour. I received way more than I expected in this novel; it was a fun read that I don't hesitate to say put into your Goodreads/Shelfari -to read- list. Going in the opposite direction for once was the right thing to do, although it was one hour at a time. It went quickly, and was satisfying and enjoyable. What more could one ask from a novel?
This was my first read with Richard Doetsch work, but it will just be a jumping off point for me. He has three other novels in print, they are: The Thieves Of Heaven, The Thieves Of Faith, and his newest novel in the series The Thieves Of Darkness. I have read the snapshots of the novel series and to say I am intrigued and excited would be accurate.

Summary: "The Thirteenth Hour"
This book is an action thriller that travels back in time. I enjoyed reading it. It was a little predictable, though.

Summary: "TIME TRAVEL SUSPENSE STORY"
The book opens with Nick having been arrested for the murder of his wife. The proposition that Quinn would have murdered Julia is ridiculous. Nick loved Julia with all his heart and was devastated by her death. Accordingly, as he sits in the police station mere hours after her murder, his life hardly seems worth living.
Two detectives are interrogating him in the classic good cop bad cop routine. His "lawyer" then comes in and gives him an ornate pocket watch and a letter. The watch enables him to go back in time for one hour at a time to relive only for a total of 12 consecutive hours. So he can learn the identity of his wife's true killer and save her. Everything he does will have ramifications in the future. As each hour is reliveD, he has the benefit in subsequent (earlier) hours of the knowledge of the later hours helping him to solve the mystery.
I really enjoyed listening to this one. Clever and original concept, fast paced, edge of your seat suspense and terrific narration by Dennis Boutsakaris

Summary: "Plot Plus Preaching"
Nick Quinn's beautiful wife, Julie, has just been brutally murdered. Nick is sitting in an interrogation room at the Byram Hill Police Department, dazed and confused, waiting for his attorney to walk through the door. Instead, a well-dressed stranger enters the room and tells Nick, "You can still save her." He then gives Nick a letter and a gold watch and warns him, "Keep an eye on that watch. You have twelve hours. In the thirteenth hour all will be lost, her fate, your fate will be sealed. . . ." As long as Nick keeps the watch in his possession, he can go back, one hour at a time, and alter the events that led to Julie's death in a desperate attempt to save her.
The Memento-esque plot device is sufficient reason to read Richard Doetsch's "The 13th Hour." And, as a thriller, it is certainly a challenging, action-packed read. Quinn is surrounded by corrupt police and doesn't know whom to trust; all emergency personnel and law enforcement are scurrying to sort through the wreckage of a plane crash that has killed all 212 passengers; every move Quinn makes can have unintended consequences and alter the future in ways he can't foresee. As a thriller, the book rates at least four stars. However, I became irritated at what felt like sermonizing throughout the story and the characters were so totally black or white the plot began to lose its edge. The almost total perfection of Nick and Julie's marriage also added to the feeling that the characters were stereotypes dropped into a very creative plot device to make it work. So, for me, "The 13th Hour" doesn't quite make it.
